New Regulations for .cn Domains in China!

ICP License in on .cn domains

The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), China’s internet regulator, has implemented new rules for .cn domains. You now require an Internet Content Provider License (ICP License) to display content on your .cn website to users in China.

What does this mean for you?

You need an ICP License: If you have a .cn website and want to display content to users in China, you must obtain an ICP License. The license costs approximately 2500 DKK per domain per year, and there is a one-time fee to transfer your domain to Chinese nameservers.

You can avoid the license: You don’t need an ICP License if you don’t mind that your .cn website will not be visible to users in China. However, you will still need to pay the annual registration fee for your domain.

What should you do?

Consider your needs: Decide whether you need to display content to users in China.

Obtain an ICP License: If you need an ICP License, contact a license provider. The process can take several weeks.

Transfer your domain: Your domain must be transferred to Chinese nameservers to function with an ICP License.
